The Indigenous People
Jakarta is from a village to Metropolis that have been conquered and ruled. Jakarta has been called many names like Sunda Kelapa, Jayakarta, Batavia and Djakarta. Now it's named Jakarta. In the early 1500's ships from Portugal, China, Dutch, England and many other countries trade here for their high quality black pepper, rice and gold. They were also known for their kindliness because they gave permission to building forts or symbolizing pieces on their land. Many pieces of evidence point to Prince jayawikarta, Bativa, Sunda Kingdom and also ties to the VOC (Dutch East India Company.) The indigenous people are mostly popular for their trading port which was Sunda, it was were mostly everything started.
Relationships between the natives and Europeans
The relationships between the natives and Europe depended on their values on the Jakarta land. Most places like China, Portugal and England wanted a alliance or a trading source.But the Dutch wasn't liked because of their sneaky ways but England was only liked by Prince Jayawikarta. The Banten didn't like England and the Prince secret alliance. Most countries were liked by Jakarta people before the Dutch came. At first the Dutch was granted permission for their fort to be built but they turned upon the natives. With the help of the British, Prince Jayawikarta was able to make the Dutch surrender.
The great Kingdom was located on the West to the border of Central Java in the East. Also called Sunda Kelapa, was a well nourish country located on the mountains that was made around 670 AD. On August 21, 1522 the King of Sunda and Portugal signed a treaty of friendship. This treaty gave the right for Portugal to build a fort for the Sundanese and the right to be on their land.The kingdom was held by the Sudanese people. The kingdom of Sunda was very successful nation and there were reports that they have traded with Asia during the Sung dynasty. Coming from the sources of Asia's records, Sunda was known for its black pepper. With its great black pepper, the people had to depend on their land for their resources. Another one of their main foods was rice, rice was so important they even had a rice ceremony. Sunda is now know for its luxurious culture and exquisite historical culture. The Sunda Kingdom will always be remembered as a legacy.
Prince Jayawikarta was Prince of Jakarta and a follower of Sultan of the Banten. The Prince was in great displeasure with the Dutch, so he always kept a close eye out because they had weapons on him. So the Prince granted the British permission to build a fort. It was a great alliance they had because the British and the Prince but the Banten didn't think so. The Banten came right before the Dutch decided to give up and surrender on the British. The Banten didn't like when they heard that Prince Jayawikarta started a alliance without the Banten's permission. The Prince was forcefully moved to a different location, without the power of his ruling. After the scare the Dutch had, they decide to take a liking to the Banten's and name the fort they had built, Batavia. Since then Jakarta was known as Batavia for more than 300 years.
