Reasons for going to Asia
The Dutch and The Portuguese wanted to gain new land. They did this so they could expand their land. Also they wanted to spread the religion they follow. The Dutch and Portuguese also wanted to make new trades to make more money so that in the long run they become richer. The Dutch took over Malacca from the Portuguese in 1641 while Spain began to colonize the Philippines. Going to Asia was ideal for both country's.
Dutch East India Company ( VOC )
The Dutch East India Company was a big part of going to Asia. It was also know as the VOC. VOC. stood for Vereenigde Oost-indische Compagnie. It was created by the Dutch because they wanted to protect their trade in the India Ocean. Also to assist in their war of independence from Spain. The VOC lasted thought the 17th century. Do to the VOC the Dutch were able to make a lot of money from the amount of trade they had done. VOC also helped the army get stronger.
Establishing of Batavia
The Batavia was one of the most important harbors that they had. Almost any body who had it was properly going to control trade. By having that harbor you could control the trade between Cape of Good Hope and the Straits of Magellan. The two of them had lots of good that were good for trade. That's why hey wanted it. The only harbor of that they could use was the harbor that Batavia had.
Treatment of Indigenous
The way they treated the people that lived there was bad. They were not nice to the people that lived there. They enslaved some of them and forced them to do there work for them. They were curl to them.
